RIYADH — The 34th conference of the Friday Family Bowling League, the longest running bowling league in Riyadh, officially opened at the Universal Bowling Center (UBC) here recently. The league is organized by the Unified Filipino Tenpin Bowlers of Riyadh (UFTBR) and 18 teams with about 200 bowlers are participating in the championship. It was a festive opening celebration as bowlers with their families and friends packed the UBC bowling arena. Mohammad Mustafa, manager of Pizza Inn, the main sponsor of this conference, also graced the opening day. Pizza Inn has pledged to provide pizza weekly for the Team of the Week awardee. After a brief opening ceremony, the competitive bowling took over. Team Unity, with team captain Cesar De Mesa and anchored by UFTBR chairman Ernee Noto, and ABB Saudi Plus, captained by Glenn Espiritu, drew first blood and took the opening Team of the Week awards as both teams rolled an almost perfect 25 points. Team Unity won over Aces and Kings of Rey Bautista with Noto rolling a 4-game series of 829, Mike Ecalnir 849, Irene Pua 793, De Mesa 647 and Dennis Durens 725. ABB Saudi Plus defeated Simply Perfect of Doy Del Moral with ace bowlers Atoi Ramos (899) and Jun Bantug (822) doing most of the damage together with Espiritu (765), RodelCanda (648) and RollieNavales (674). Art Yukong of team Beauties and the Best took the Bowler of the Week honor for men with a 4-game series of 938, while Rachel Tismo of defending champion Unica took the ladies plum with a series of 918. Special Elite Achievers for the week for 1-game high score were bagged by Yukong (279), Ronald Bautista (277), Tismo (278), Pua (253) and Cely Mendoza (243). The other participating teams are: Cezars Team (Jerry Austria, captain), Pin Pals (Louie Agtarap), Free Style (Omar Valdez), Bandar Assassins (Bandar Al Marshad), Allied Unica (Jun Macarandang), Habagat (Cecille Solomon), Beauties and the Best (Lulu Quejada), Royal Strikers (Albert Abug), Unica (Armin Isles), Forever More DD (Ian Choco), Saudi Oger (Erwin Atienza), Got Chah (Joe Rafael), Striking Distance (Butch Mateo) and Honky Tonks (Ric Ventura).
