SOHAG, Egypt — A senior Egyptian security official says 14 people have been killed and seven injured in a car crash involving three vehicles in the southern province of Sohag. Sohag's security chief, Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Saber, said the crash happened Sunday night on the desert road between Sohag and the Red Sea. Saber says three children are among the dead and three of the injured are in critical condition. He says a truck driver lost control and crashed into a microbus and a car coming from the opposite direction. Deadly traffic crashes claim thousands of lives in Egypt every year. They are mostly caused by speeding, bad roads or a lack of regular vehicle maintenance. The collisions killed about 13,000 people in Egypt in 2013. — AP
