A BUS COLLIDED WITH A MINIBUS KILLING 16 AND INJURING 4 ON A HIGHWAY SOUTH OF CAIRO ON SATURDAY, POLICE SAID. THE BUS CRASH TOOK PLACE ON A SINGLE LANE HIGHWAY NEAR FAYOUM, A PROVINCE ABOUT 100 KILOMETERS (65 MILES) SOUTHWEST OF CAIRO, POLICE SAID. THE SPEEDING MINIBUS PACKED WITH PASSENGERS WAS HEADING SOUTH TO UPPER EGYPT WHILE THE BUS WAS TAKING THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. ROAD ACCIDENTS ARE COMMON IN EGYPT BECAUSE OF BAD ROADS AND POOR ENFORCEMENT OF TRAFFIC LAWS. POLICE ESTIMATE THAT TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS KILL ABOUT 6,000 PEOPLE EACH YEAR, THE ASSOCIATED PRESS REPORTED.
