JEDDAH — A baby girl at the Jeddah Maternity and Children's Hospital in Musadiyah District suffered second and third degree burns only a few hours after her birth after being scalded by hot water while being bathed, Al-Madinah newspaper reported. The victim's father, Nasser Al-Qahtani, said his daughter was born at around 7 a.m. on Monday and was in good health. The nurse approached her mother at 4 p.m. asking for his daughter so she could be given a shower. He said: “The nurse didn't even check the temperature of the water. The water was too hot and my daughter has suffered serious burns. “This is unforgivable negligence and I will not be silent about it.” Al-Qahtani said he filed a complaint to the management of the hospital, Jeddah Health Affairs and the Ministry of Health. Jeddah Health Director Dr. Mubarak Dhafer said an urgent committee was formed to look into the case and hospital officials will be questioned over the negligence. He said: “The newborn was transferred to an intensive care unit and is being monitored around the clock. Her condition is now stable and she will recover soon.” Jeddah Health Affairs apologized to the family and promised to discipline the nurse for her negligence.
