JEDDAH — Mayor of Jeddah Hani Aburas has announced a budget of SR1.27 billion for the development of the coastal area.
Jeddah Municipality plans to enhance the coastal area of the city and turn it into an entertainment bay for residents and visitors.
Aburas said the municipality would develop and enhance the entire coast of Jeddah, starting from the Border Guard barracks to Al-Rahma Mosque. There is SR800 million left from the initial budget.
The mayor said: “The project will offer services appropriate for all ages. “There will be beaches, entertainment activities, open theaters, playgrounds and pedestrian walkways.
“There will also be shaded rest areas, sea taxis, parking lots and green areas.
“Visitors of the Corniche will be able to commute from one area to another using the monorail.”
A new SR70.25 million Corniche area near the south of the city will open with various entertainment and luxury services, including auto-flush toilets, he said.
He also announced the completion of Dahban Resort near Salman Gulf. The resort is 110,000 square meters with a development budget of SR38.31 million.
It has pedestrian walkways, family and singles shaded resting areas, soccer field and multipurpose sports field. The first developed area had a budget of SR188.3 million and entered the Guinness World Records as the world's largest open museum where various sculptures and art pieces were showcased.
The area extended from Al-Salam Palace to the Jeddah Equestrian Club. The municipality planted gardens on the Corniche, built fountains, provided shaded rest areas and parking lots that can accommodate 800 cars and developed the Palestine Street walkway.
Aburas said: “I would like to thank the minister of municipal and rural affairs, the governor of Jeddah and the emir of Makkah for their generous support and consistent guidance.
“The last five years have witnessed a drastic development of the Jeddah coast.”
