RIYADH – Anti-drug authorities in the Eastern Province have arrested 12 people, including four foreign workers, for smuggling and distributing liquor, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Thursday.
Acting on a tip-off, police started an investigation into the activities of an alleged criminal network that smuggled huge quantities of liquor into the country and distributed it in Qatif governorate, a spokesman for the General Directorate for Narcotics Control said.
He said the officers kept the gang's refilling and distribution points under surveillance for some time before storming them.
Two hundred and two liquor bottles of various sizes ready for distribution were seized. A large number of empty bottles, commercial stickers and several pieces of machinery for manufacturing plastic and glass bottles were also confiscated.
Eight Saudis and four Nepalese violators of residency regulations were arrested and handed over to the concerned authorities for action.
