Grizzlies snap losing skid
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 29 - 12 - 2014

MIAMI — Mike Conley scored 24 points and Marc Gasol added 22 points and 10 rebounds to power the Memphis Grizzlies over Miami 103-95 Saturday and snap a four-game losing skid.
Beno Udrih added 11 points and Tayshaun Prince contributed 10 for the Grizzlies, who played a fourth consecutive game without inside star Zach Randolph, who has a knee injury.
Dwyane Wade, whose 31-point performance sparked Miami over Cleveland and ex-teammate LeBron James two nights earlier, scored 25 points while reserve Danny Granger scored 18 points and Britain's Luol Deng added 16.
The Heat fell to 14-17 and have not won back-to-back games in more than a month.
Memphis took a big lead but Miami trimmed the deficit to a single point several times in the fourth quarter only to fall short of overtaking the Grizzlies each time.
Conley's floater gave Memphis a 93-86 lead with 2:54 remaining. Mario Chalmers' three-point play and two Chris Andersen free throws pulled the Heat within 93-91 but Gasol added two free throws and later blocked a Chalmers shot in the closing seconds to seal Miami's fate.
Heat forward Chris Bosh missed his eighth game in a row with a left calf strain.
Raptors 110, Clippers 98: Kyle Lowry scored 25 points to lead Toronto to a 110-98 road victory over the Los Angeles Clippers.
Jonas Valanciunas had 22 points and 11 rebounds as the Raptors (23-7), the Eastern Conference's top team, showed no signs of rust after a four-day break against the Clippers (20-11), who played their 15th game in 27 days.
J.J. Redick scored 23 points and moved past the 5,000-point mark in his NBA career to lead the Clippers.
Bulls 107, Pelicans 100: Jimmy Butler scored 33 points as the Chicago Bulls beat the New Orleans Pelicans 107-100 for their sixth successive victory.
Anthony Davis led the Pelicans with 29 points, 11 rebounds and six blocked shots in his first NBA game in the city where he grew up.
Wizards 101, Celtics 88: Paul Pierce had 17 points in 18 minutes against his former team as the Washington Wizards demolished the Boston Celtics 101-88.
The Wizards (21-8) never trailed, opening a 15-2 lead inside four minutes and were up by at least 17 points after each of the first three quarters.
Hawks 90, Bucks 85: Jeff Teague scored 10 of his game-high 25 points in the fourth quarter as the Atlanta Hawks pulled away late to beat the Milwaukee Bucks 90-85.
Pacers 110, Nets 85: The Indiana Pacers won for just the second time in their last 10 road games when they beat Brooklyn 110-85, ending the Nets' season-high three-game winning streak.
Magic 102, Hornets 94: Nikola Vucevic had 22 points and 11 rebounds, and the Orlando Magic withstood a career-high 42 points from Kemba Walker to beat the Charlotte Hornets 102-94.
Kings 135, Knicks 129 (OT): Center DeMarcus Cousins scored nine of his season-high 39 points in overtime as the Sacramento Kings held on to beat the New York Knicks 135-129.
Warriors 110, Timberwolves 97: Point guard Stephen Curry had 25 points and backcourt mate Klay Thompson 21 as the Golden State Warriors cruised to their ninth consecutive home win, a 110-97 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Jazz 88, 76ers 71: Forward Derrick Favors scored 17 points, pulled down 15 rebounds and blocked five shots to lead the Utah Jazz to a 88-71 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers, who scored just 12 points in the first quarter. — Agencies
