With regard to the article “Granting citizenship to the children of Saudi mothers will enrich our culture” (Oct. 29), it is a fact that most professional and educated expats do not want Saudi or UAE citizenship, but rather want to move to countries where there are long-term opportunities such as the US or Canada. However, these Saudi mothers are citizens and their children have every right to Saudi citizenship. XZaky, Online response I had tears in my eyes after reading this article. Every word is true. We, the daughters of this country, suffer every moment of our life as we worry about what will happen to our children after we are gone. They cannot inherit, which is their basic right in Islam, because they are not Saudi nationals. Why does everyone say that their fathers are non-Saudis, rather than realizing that their mothers are Saudis. We all know what Islam states about the mother-child relationship. Saudi Mother, Online response This a perfect article. The children of Saudi women are actually Saudi. Saudi mothers are the ones who carried their children in their womb and went through labor pains at the birth of their children endangering their lives. How is it then that these children are expatriates? How can a child who was nurtured by his Saudi mother before and after birth be an expat? Don't we all know that an expat is the someone who comes from another country to work in our country, not the child of a citizen? Ann, Online response
