JEDDAH — Hindi Day was celebrated at the Consulate General of India, Jeddah on September 14. Indian Consul General B.S. Mubarak presided over the function. In his inaugural speech, he congratulated all the officials on Hindi Day and exhorted them to work in Hindi, which is the official language of India. He also congratulated the officials who had participated in the Hindi Essay competition organized in the consulate and gave away the prizes and certificate to the winners. The winners of the essay competition were Nadeem Ahmad khan, Sandeep Kumar Singh and Sher Singh, who won the first, second and third prizes respectively. Sanjay Gupta, Mahesh Chandra and Saghir Miyan Khan also participated in the contest. Mohammed Noor Rahman Sheikh, Deputy Consul General, and other officials presented some poems in Hindi. The function was coordinated by the Head of Chancery and Consul (Education), Mohammad Raghib Qureshi, who spoke about the history and importance of Hindi Day. — SG
