MAKKAH — A firefighter suffocated while extinguishing a fire that erupted in a power station on Al-Sharashef Mountain in Makkah. The firefighter was provided first aid by Red Crescent paramedics who were on site. Civil Defense spokesman Lt. Col. Saleh Al-Elayani said nine firefighting teams were dispatched to contain the fire. He added that the fire spread to nearby shops and firefighters faced difficulties in reaching the location due to the mountainous terrain and narrow roads. Investigations are under way to determine the cause of the fire.
