JEDDAH — To further strengthen the existing warm and cordial relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, Pakistan navy ships PNS Tippu Sultan and PNS Rah Naward are scheduled to dock at Jeddah port from June 19-22, on a goodwill cum training cruise. Sohail Ali Khan, press consular at the Pakistani consulate, said PNS Tippu Sultan is named after Sultan Fateh Ali Tippu who ruled Mysore, a sovereign state in south India, from 1762 to 1799. His extraordinary valor earned him the title Tippu (Tiger) in his native language. Tippu was the last pillar of resistance against the British in the subcontinent and refused to compromise his honor and steadfastly fought the British until his martyrdom in a battle in 1799. The ship was acquired and commissioned on Sept. 23, 1994. After its induction in the Pakistan Navy, it has undergone major modifications. The ship houses a motivated and professional crew and is capable of undertaking a variety of naval operations covering the entire spectrum of naval warfare. — SG
