I am writing with regard to the article "Female activists ‘doing harm to women's rights'" (June 1). It takes courage to speak out against the mafia-like arrogance that some of these "activists" display. They not only tarnish the image of Saudi Arabia abroad and demonize men, but they also overtly bring into question the basic tenets of Shariah all in the name of "women's rights". This passive-aggressive behavior has to stop and these activists must be held accountable. The West has no right to interfere in our affairs. We will never give up our culture in the name of feminism and we should never apologize. Salem, Online response II. Women who are suppressed tend to go out and exercise their right to freedom of speech. That is the way it should be. As the voices of Saudi women are muffled, the best way for them to spread their message is to go elsewhere, such as in the West in order that attention may be given to their plight. This is not an attempt to tarnish the image of the Kingdom, but rather to rectify that which has been practiced for a long time and which has to be changed. Manong, Online response
