Saudi Gazette Report RIYADH — The International Indian Public School Riyadh, a community school under the patronage of Indian Ambassador Hamid Ali Rao has been conducting various co scholastic programs in the school in addition to the academic activities. The Fancy Dress competition has been one of the most attractive and mega event for the tiny tots of kindergarten section and this year the differently-abled students of the Special Care Centre showcased a colorful and spirited presentation. Special Care Centre (SCC) an integral part of the International Indian Public School provides special education and primary rehabilitation to differently-abled students with special needs like Autism, Down syndrome, Hydrocephalus, Dyslexia, Cerebral Palsy, Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) etc. The main purpose of the competition for these children was not only to blend learning with fun but also to develop confidence in the students by giving them an opportunity to get on the stage and perform in front of an audience. The event held for three days aimed to promote ‘Role Play' – a crucial tool of learning for the young children. Its sole purpose was to provide a platform for the students to unleash their potential thereby developing self-confidence. The UKG pupils competed with each other on the first day. From Paper doll to Al -Faisaliah tower, the winners were exemplary in their performance. The second day witnessed a huge gamut of creativity by the LKG students. Themes like save the environment, time management, global warming, and enactment of eminent personalities dominated the show. The depiction of Arvind Kejriwal, ex C.M. of Delhi, was the highlight of the day. The third day proved to be of great significance as the tiny tots of nursery and students from the Special Care Centre geared up in their various costumes performed. The presentation and characters portrayed by nursery students, from a bangle seller to a chicken enthralled the audience. Dr. Asiya H. Rao, the guest of honor graced the occasion along with other dignitaries. Principal K.M. Abdul Azeez, members of the Managing Committee, Imtiaz Ahmed, Chairman, Dr. Sadia Arjumand, Director Special Care Centre, Nowshad, Director Academics, welcomed the parents and guests. Dr. Asiya emphasized the importance of social awareness towards children with special needs. She said: “It is time to educate society to accept these students.” She spent valuable time in school interacting with the students and staff. The show stealers and those who walked away with the loudest accolades were the students of SCC, who displayed an inspiring performance. Enacting various characters like tabla player, fish seller, doctor, renowned personalities like Charlie Chaplin and Salman Khan, they captured everyone's heart. Trophies were awarded not only to the position winners but to all the participants of SCC amid thunderous applause from the audience. The event was meticulously judged by a three-member jury and concluded with the presentation of mementos and handmade cards made by special children, to the guest of honor and all the respected guests.
