With reference to the article “Vehicle accidents in KSA” (Feb. 27), I suggest some steps to curb, if not totally prevent, accidents in the Kingdom. 1. Spend a substantial amount for Saher camera to be placed at every highway and traffic lights. 2. Increase the fines on cars with masked number plates. 3. Every Friday sermon at the Grand Mosque should include a reminder for motorists to follow rules while driving. S. Khan, Online response II. Aware that Saher cameras sometimes punish innocent drivers with hefty fines, I suggest launching education drive for motorists to develop a mindset to drive carefully. Also, there should be more traffic police on the highway watching for car speeding. The whole traffic system should not be left to some robotic Saher cameras. Since Saudis are complaining about lack of jobs, the government can employ more than 100,000 youths and train them as traffic police and speed watchers. Expat, Online response III. Saher is a lousy system. How do you protect the innocents? I got charged for somebody else's folly and was disgusted with the way the authorities dealt with my complaint. I take it as another tax to be paid. Abdul Dayan, Online response IV. There is no need to educate the motorists. All have valid driving licenses which means that, in theory, they took the drivers' online and practical tests. They should know the rules. If they do not then they are driving illegally. The problem is the refusal to follow the rules. That means they are not only endangering themselves, but also my family. Increase the penalty. Jail them and even whip them if they commit major offenses. Average Joe, Online response
