JEDDAH — The Pakistan Welfare Society (PWS) concluded the second Childhood Disease Screening Program (CDSP) by school health services on February 13 at the auditorium of Pakistan International School, Al-Azizia. PWS is a prestigious, voluntary social welfare organization providing social, educational and health care services to youth and needy patients of Pakistani community under the umbrella of Pakistan Consulate General Jeddah. Speaking to Saudi Gazette, Dr. Khalil-ur-Rahman, founder president of PWS and a senior physician and kidney specialist at King Faisal Specialist Hospital (KFSH), Jeddah since 1999, shed lights on the limitations of screening. He said: “We should understand this program is not a treatment only an advisory /screening services. The medical committee of PWS will submit a report with summarized results of the recently concluded CDSP to the principal as well as parents with advices and recommendations according to patients. The students have been screened in vaccination status, hearing, vision, nutrition, height, heart and dental conditions.” He added: “Screening can reduce the risk of developing a condition or its complications but it cannot offer a guarantee of protection.” Khalil thanked all participating doctors, school's staff members Shamin Akhtar (PET), Anwar-un-Nisa and Rana Almas, disciplinary in-charge. He extended especial thanks to the headmistress, Alia Anwar. He also appreciated and praised the services of PWS members and volunteers Mohammad Nawaz Janjua, Press & Publication Secretary, Mohammad Khalid Janjua, Mohammed Talha, Mohammad Younus Abdul Sattar and Fouzia Khan. Dr. Mohammed Arshad Alvi, Dr. Irfan Abra, Dr. Noman Ahmad, Dr. Attaulla and Dr. Asim Ali from King Faisal Specialist Hospital participated in screening the students. Dr. Arshad Qaisarani of PWS screened the vision of students.
