Reading the article "Expectations low for Syrian peace talks" (Jan. 12) gave one an impression that mere talks will not end the bloodshed in Syria. Negotiations only delay an resolution to the conflict that has already killed more than 100,000, mostly civilians. Its sad to think that innocent civilians have become a victim of this war which sees no prospect of an end as long as Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad remains in power. The brutal dictator does not care for the Syrian people and will sacrifice them in his bid to stay in power. The world community should find a way to remove him from power so that peace will come to the Syrian people who have undergone untold sufferings just because Assad will never give up his grip of the country for his own sake and that of his family. Stories about the sufferings of Syrians who have fled their country to seek refuge in other nations are heart breaking. Armand Agustin, Jeddah
