Warriors stretch streak to 8
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 05 - 01 - 2014

NEW YORK — The Golden State Warriors overcame a 15-point deficit in the fourth quarter to stretch their winning streak to eight games with a 101-100 victory over the Atlanta Hawks.
Forward Andrew Iguodala hit a three-pointer at the buzzer for the Warriors, who had appeared to be suffering a hangover from their victory Thursday against Miami.
Golden State (22-13) had made just five of 26 three-point shots before Iguodala connected and snapped a five-game home winning streak for the Hawks (18-15).
Warriors guard Stephen Curry, who scored 36 points in the 123-114 victory over the Heat, scored 14 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter to spark the comeback.
Forward David Lee scored 23 points and guard Klay Thompson scored 21 for the Warriors, who trailed 91-76 midway in the fourth quarter.
Rockets 102, Knicks 100: Houston guard James Harden scored 37 points but the Rockets benefited from a curious decision by New York Knicks reserve guard J.R. Smith in a 102-100 win.
The Rockets blew a late 100-95 lead and the Knicks had an opportunity to hold for the final shot, but Smith inexplicably hoisted a three-point attempt with 19.9 seconds left after center Tyson Chandler corralled a critical offensive rebound.
Knicks guard Beno Udrih followed by fouling Rockets guard Aaron Brooks, who then hit two free throws. Rockets forward Chandler Parsons added a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Pelicans 95, Celtics 92: New Orleans forward Anthony Davis scored 10 of his 23 points and had five of his eight rebounds in the fourth quarter to lead the Pelicans to a 95-92 victory over the Boston Celtics.
Ryan Anderson was carried off the court with 11:02 left after banging heads with Boston forward Gerald Wallace.
Boston (13-20) led by two when Anderson left but Davis scored five straight points to put the Pelicans (15-16) back in front.
Raptors 101, Wizards 88: Guard DeMar DeRozen scored 20 points and point guard Kyle Lowry added 19 points as the Toronto Raptors used a dominant third quarter for a 101-88 victory over the Washington Wizards.
Patrick Patterson had 18 points and fellow forward Amir Johnson scored 17 for the Raptors (16-15), who turned a 48-45 halftime lead into a rout with a 19-4 third-quarter run fueled by three-pointers.
Power forward Nene scored 15 points and point guard John Wall had 11 for the Wizards (14-16).
Clippers 119, Mavericks 112: Los Angeles Clippers All-Star point guard Chris Paul left the game in the third quarter with a separated right shoulder but team mates DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin still delivered a tough 119-112 road win over the Dallas Mavericks.
Dallas (19-14) led 110-103 with 4:06 left but Griffin took over late, completing a three-point play with a free throw, then hitting a pair from the foul line for a 115-112 lead.
He finished with 25 points, 14 rebounds and five assists. Jordan also had 25 points with 18 rebounds as Los Angeles improved to 23-12.
Nuggets 111, Grizzlies 108: Guard Ty Lawson had 18 points and 12 assists, forward Kenneth Faried and center Timofey Mozgov added 16 points apiece and the Denver Nuggets snapped an eight-game skid with a 111-108 win over the Memphis Grizzlies. The win was Denver's first since mid-December.
Lakers 110, Jazz 99: Center Pau Gasol almost recorded a triple-double as the Los Angeles Lakers snapped their six-game losing streak with a 110-99 victory over the Utah Jazz. — Agencies
