WADI AL-DAWASIR — The governor of Aflaj has said the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution (BIP) is investigating a shooting incident involving drug control officers in the governorate. Zaid Al-Husain said the incident resulted in severe injuries to the victim. His relatives claimed that a patrol team from the General Administration for Drug Control (GADC) was chasing their son for unknown reasons. The patrol team then fired at his vehicle causing it to roll over multiple times, causing serious injuries to him, they said. They added that the officers then disappeared from the scene without offering any assistance to the victim who was left bleeding on the roadside. The youth was saved by passing motorists who notified the police and the Red Crescent. He was transported to Al-Aflaj General Hospital and then to Prince Sultan Hospital in Riyadh with skull fractures and internal bleeding. However, a GADC report claimed the patrol team stopped to investigate a vehicle without license plates parked alongside the road. When an officer approached the vehicle, the driver pointed a gun at him and asked him to keep away and fled. The patrol team pursued the vehicle and fired warning shots in the air, but the vehicle's driver would not stop. The officers then shot at the vehicle's tires and forced the driver to stop, but the man fled on foot into a nearby neighborhood. The officers searched the area but could not find him.
