The article “KKU expels five students for involvement in rioting” (Dec. 17) reports that five female university students were responsible for rioting and causing damage to the university's canteen. Apparently, they were objecting to the quality of the food they were being served. All academic institutions impose certain rules and regulations on their students to ensure the proper functioning of the educational institution. Students are obliged to adhere to those rules in letter and spirit, and violators are subject to punishment. Without gender distinction, students are not expected to violate the conduct of the university and take law and order into their own hands. If they have any genuine problems, they should submit them in writing to the administration, and by all means they must avoid rioting and the destruction of university property.
