JEDDAH — The Royal Thai Consulate-General in Jeddah hosted a reception for Thai Community on December 5 in the Western Region of Saudi Arabia on the auspicious occasion of King Bhumibol Adulyadej's 86th birthday at the Thai Consul General's residence. The day is also marked as the Thai National Day. Approximately 200 Thai residents living in Jeddah, Makkah, and Taif attended the reception to honor and to show their gratitude to their beloved monarch. Acting Consul General, Muhamad Lutfee Useng, greeted members of the Thai community and blessed the King on behalf of the Thai Community their best wishes and accordant saying "Long Live His Majesty the King." The month of December each year is an important time for the people of Thailand, as the entire country celebrates the king's birthday. King Bhumibol Adulyadej, whose name means “the strength of the land,” has been the King of Thailand for 67 years and is the world's longest reigning monarch. He acceded to the throne in 1946 and has devoted himself to the development of Thailand in many areas, particularly at strengthening local communities so that they are able to support themselves. Most of the king's efforts to improve the lives of his people have focused on remote areas of the country, which are most in need of assistance. — SG
