JEDDAH — The Japanese Consulate in Jeddah recently organized a reception to celebrate the birthday of Emperor Akihito at the residence of Consul General Matahiro Yamaguchi. The reception was attended by Fareed Azhar, deputy director general at the Makkah region's branch of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Government officials, diplomats from different countries, local businessmen, several consuls general and members of the Japanese community were in attendance. After Consul General Yamaguchi welcomed the dignitaries, Japanese and Saudi national anthems were played. Yamaguchi stressed on the exceptional relationship between Japan and the Kingdom in various aspects. Japan and the Kingdom share a long history of friendship and cooperation in the energy sector, the consul general said. "But, during the past few years, cultural, educational and investment bonds have also been strengthened and I will exert my best efforts to create more cooperation in these fields." The historical visit of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to Jeddah last April opened the doors for businessmen from the two countries for more investment opportunities, he said. Consul General Yamaguchi said he was ready to provide every possible assistance to Saudi businessmen looking for investments and mutual beneficial relations with their Japanese counterparts. He said Emperor Akihito, who will turn 80 on Dec. 23, is in good health and is fully fit to discharge his official duties. The consul general also praised the great attention provided by the Kingdom under the leadership of King Abdullah and Crown Prince Salman to the Saudi youth.
