With regard to the report "50,000 undocumented Ethiopians sent home" (Nov. 28), it is a relief to hear that the repatriation is going on very smoothly. But what we have to investigate is how such a large number of illegal immigrants ended up in the major cities of Saudi Arabia. How many officials accumulated wealth from this operation? Aren't Saudis the ones who brought these illegal expats here? Aren't Saudis the ones who sold their peace of mind and internal security for money? Although I sympathize with the suffering of the poor, it is surely important to expel illegal expats from the country to maintain law and order. We have experienced an unbelievable rise in crimes during the the past eight to ten years. In areas such as Riyadh's Hai Al-Wazaraat, expats were living in constant fear of the hooligans who would steal cash, jewelry and laptops - sometime at knife or gunpoint.
