Healthy habits for happy kids

Summer vacation is over but that does not mean that happy times are over. School can be fun because you get to see your friends and learn new things too.
There are seven ideas that can help kids be happy and do well in school. You can read the book called “The 7 Habits of Happy Kids” by Sean Covey or follow these steps that we got from the book.
They are easy and can help you have the best school year ever!

* When you are bored, take charge. Do not sit around sadly waiting for something good to come on TV. There are many things you can do to change a dull day into a cool one.
* Begin with the end in mind – have a plan. Always plan ahead. Pick out your clothes and pack your school bag the night before school. That way in the morning, you can have time to eat breakfast and chat with your mom before it's time to go to school. Count the money you collected from the Eid holidays and plan how much you want to save for later and how much you can spend now on candy and things you want. Write your plans down on a piece of paper. At school, write down reminders of homework, tests, or school supplies your teacher asked you to bring.
* Everyone can win. Think about what makes other people happy; your friend, your little sister, dad, the housemaid, your teacher, and neighbor. If you lose a game you were playing with a friend, be happy for her and do not shout “cheater!” If you have a box of chocolates, make sure you give everyone in your family a piece before you eat one. You will feel proud of yourself.
* Listen before you talk. If two people talk at the same time, none will hear anything, and nothing will get done. Listen to what the other person is saying. The next time your friend is sad, listen, look him in the eye, and ask if you can help.
* Balance feels best. You are special so you should take care of your body, mind, and feelings. Take care of your body: eat healthy foods, stay away from sodas, and sleep early at night. Take care of your mind: read a book for 20 minutes each day.
* Together is better. When people work together, they get the job done better and faster. That is true for your soccer team winning a game, for getting the dirty dishes cleaned at home, for baking a cake, and for finishing your class science project.
* Work first, then play. Finish your homework, study for that math quiz, and practice your spelling words as soon as you come home from school. Then you can go ahead and enjoy the rest of your day instead of feeling bad about it all day. You will feel much better and you will probably get better grades in school.
* Read a book, write jokes, draw, or do something nice for someone else, or make a card for your mom or friend.
* Take care of your feelings: Give your parents a big hug before bedtime, stare at something beautiful like the sky or sea, and pray your five daily prayers on time.
