JEDDAH – Saudi Arabia urged the UN Security Council to take “deterrent” action against the Syrian regime's “massacres” and its alleged use of chemical weapons against its own people. “The Kingdom calls on the international community, represented by the UN Security Council, to take up its responsibilities towards the tragedies and terrible massacres committed by the (Syrian) regime against its people, using various types of arms that include internationally banned chemical weapons,” the Council of Ministers said at its weekly session held on Monday. Minister of Culture and Information Dr. Abdulaziz Khoja said that the Cabinet warned that continued inaction and failure to take a clear and deterrent decision so as to put an end to these heinous massacres will lead to more such tragedies and massacres. The Cabinet also emphasized that reason and wisdom should prevail in preserving the security and stability of Egypt. “The Kingdom demands nothing more than that the Egyptian people as well as the Arab and Muslims nations would stand united,” the Council said. Dr. Khoja said that the Cabinet appreciated the content of the message issued by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah on the events in Egypt. “The content stems from the concern of King Abdullah, who always stands by the right without concern for any (vested) interests or momentary gains , and his strong keenness in supporting brothers of Egypt against terrorism, aberration and sedition against those who try to harm its internal affairs,” the Cabinet said. It also condemned the terrorist bombings that targeted two mosques, killing and wounding a large number of people in the Lebanese city of Tripoli. The session conveyed the Kingdom's condolences to the families of the victims and wished for a speedy recovery for the injured. – SG/SPA
