Khalid Al-Jabri Okaz/Saudi Gazette MADINAH – Two members of the Commission of the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice (Hai'a) are required to appear before Al-Aqeeq Police Station for involvement in a case related to another Hai'a member who was found guilty of assaulting a citizen and resisting arrest by police officers. Sources told Okaz/Saudi Gazette that one of the two members has refused to appear before police station while the other resigned from the Commission and traveled abroad, possibly to Syria. They are both accused of aiding and abetting the Hai'a member who beat up a Saudi a few months ago and falsely charged with cavorting with a woman in his car. The reality was that the Hai'a officer assaulted the Saudi and knocked him unconscious just to settle old scores and the other two Hai'a members were there when the assault happened. At the time, the Saudi citizen filed a complaint against the Hai'a member. Investigations showed that the Hai'a member planned the whole thing with the other two members just to get back on the citizen. The members used a private car and pulled over the Saudi late at night and asked to step out of the car, then started beating him. The case was referred to the Madinah District Court and the Hai'a member who assaulted the citizen was found guilty and was handed down a two-month prison sentence. His accomplices were given the same prison term. Sources in the Hai'a's Madinah branch said the convicted Hai'a member turned out to have no experience at all in the field. He also had scored very low in his performance evaluation form. Okaz/Saudi Gazette obtained a copy from the branch mentioning the violations committed by the Hai'a member and his two accomplices.
