BENGHAZI — The city's Birkah police station has been attacked for the fourth time this year, injuring three prisoners held in police custody. The building was targeted early Tuesday with an explosive device that destroyed the front of the building. The injured men were all taken to the Jalaa Hospital before being transferred to another facility. “The incident took place just after dawn prayers and part of the police station was destroyed,” spokesman of Benghazi Joint Security Room Mohamed Hejazi told the Libya Herald. The impact of the blast shattered windows in nearby cars and houses. The Benghazi Special Forces arrested three young people in the area, Hejazi said, all of whom were found to be carrying explosives. This is the latest in a string of bombings targeting Benghazi police stations. A police station was completely destroyed in the Al-Hadayeg District of the city in June and four more were attacked in May, including Birkah police station. The station was also targeted in both January and April this year. Some locals have suggested that the repeated attacks on this police station are over disputed land. — Libya Herald
