Ahmed Elumami BENGHAZI – An attempt to blow up Benghazi Medical College has been thwarted by a quick-thinking security guard, who reported two suspicious-looking bags he found. The bags, which had been left in the university's Sana Mheidli lecture hall, were discovered. “The university security men thought the bags looked suspicious and immediately reported them to the engineering and military explosives branch of the Libyan Army,” spokesman for Benghazi Joint Security Room, Mohamed Hejazi, told the Libya Herald. Both bags were filled with explosives. Unfortunately there is no closed circuit television camera footage, Hejazi said, but the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is looking into the incident. Despite Ramadan, security in Benghazi continues to be destabilized by acts of violence, carried out by unknown groups. These have mainly targeted the army, police and security officials. – Libya Herald
