MAKKAH — More than 30 homes in Al-Hindawiyah district of Makkah continue to experience power disruptions almost every day, resulting in damage to perishable items and electrical appliances. This disruptions typically occur during the scorching afternoon heat and while residents have, on several different occasions, complained to the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC), the problem continues to occur. Resident Salem Al-Fahmy said the SEC needed to provide the impoverished neighborhood with additional electricity as the existing capacity does not meet the area's daily needs. According to a source in the SEC, who requested anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media, the main cable that runs into the neighborhood becomes overloaded during the summer, which in turn leads to power disruptions. He added that maintenance teams deal with disruptions as they occur and that the company addresses all complaints in a timely manner.
