BANDUNG, Indonesia — Authorities have shot and killed a suspected militant after a failed attempt to bomb police in central Indonesia. One officer was critically injured while attempting to arrest the suspect. Police spokesman Col. Martinus Sitompul said Tuesday the man threw the bomb at a police post in West Java's Tasikmalaya town late Monday. It failed to explode. Sitompul said two traffic officers then chased the man and he tried to shoot them with a homemade gun that apparently jammed. He then slashed one officer's neck and chest with a machete while the other one shot the man to death. He said the man was suspected of being part of a larger group raided last week. It allegedly used robberies to fund terrorist activities, mainly aimed at police. — AP
