Umar Abdul Salam Saudi Gazette JEDDAH — It was a week of excitement for the kids living around Faisal Zahid Sports Park. Global Sports Partners (GSP) and Jeddah United joined hands to put on a week-long basketball and football clinic and training camp at the Faisal Zahid Sports Park in south Jeddah. Sixty kids between 13 and 16 years old were selected to participate in the training — 30 were given training in football and 30 in basketball. Coaches Adam Bush, Gregg Shroeder, and Ian Hughese flew in from the US to host the camps. The coaches trained the players on techniques and drills used in each sport, while encouraging the kids to practice good sportsmanship. Strength and conditioning drills were practiced every day. A coaches' clinic was held for local coaches at the end of the week as part of “train the trainer” concept and the latest up-to-date methods were presented. The coaches were also awarded certificates. Head of basketball operations coach Umar Abdul Salam praised the trainers and their level of training and presentation skills. Managing Director of Jeddah United Sports Company, Obaid Madani, said: “This project was part of our corporate social responsibility, where we give back to the community and spend time and energy with the kids training and coaching to deliver a message, which was to promote team spirit, good sportsmanship and healthy living. All the kids received medals and certificates for participation”.
