Al Baik Father and Son event a hit
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 04 - 05 - 2012

Jeddah United and Al Baik had their sixth annual Father and Son Basketball Tournament and family day at the Kaki Sports Complex here last week.
This was the second year in a row that Abdulaziz Dahlawi's Luna Electronics joined the event and provided gifts — DVD players, LCD TVs besides other electronic items — to the winners in different contests (three-point shot, racing on the football field, kicking the football on a small target, passing the football and foul shooting).
Jeddah United coach Umar Abdul Salam introduced the concept six years ago. In America on Fathers Day which always came on a Sunday in the beginning of the month of June fathers would take their kids out to the park in their neighborhood and play games with them. Recreating this concept has enhanced the lives of the families which participate every year.
This year over five hundred people attended the event. The children had to bring a family member — father, uncle, older brother or cousin — to play with them. Jeddah United divided the players into three different groups. First was the basketball division. There were four groups based on the age of sons 4–7, 8–11, 12–15 and 15 and above. Each group had four teams with seven to eight players — two or three fathers and four children per team. Each team had different colored shirts, and at the end of each game trophies were presented. Everyone received a trophy.
In the football division, there were two groups 6-10 and 11-15. For the younger players there were six teams with nine players on a team. The older group had four teams with eight players each. All participants received trophies.
Al Baik's PR manager Bassam Al-Siuofi, MD of JUSC Obaid Madani, Honorary Member of Al-Ahli Football Club Mashor Al-Harithi, coach Mohammed Naffar and Abdullah Al-Sayeed distributed trophies among the players.
The entertainment and games area for the small kids was a hit and remained packed all day long. Al Baik provided sandwiches for all the participants while popcorn, fries, sausages and juices were also available for all.
The guests of honor were Dr. Manadi Rihaymi, Ahmad Shugairi, Mashour Al-Harithi, Mohammed Al-Suhaimi and Abdulrahaman Al-Attas.
Speaking on the occasion Obaid Madani said: “I would like to thank Al Baik for its usual support in sponsoring the Father and Son Tournament, special thanks to Mr Bassam. I consider Al Baik a strategic partner where both companies share the same vision and objective in terms of society and organizing the sixth straight event is proof of that. I also would like to thank Abdulaziz Dahlawi for providing the electronic items as gifts for the second year. They added so much value to the audience. Together we are aiming to promote sports and sportsmanship and family ties through sports activities.” __
