TAIPEI — Saudi students clinched 9 major and special awards at the International Science Fair (TISF 2024) held in Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, from January 28 to February 2. They secured top positions in competition with over 600 middle and high school students from 27 countries. The Saudi students won 7 major awards by achieving second to fourth places in the fields of engineering, environmental engineering, medicine and life, chemistry, and earth and environmental sciences, in addition to two special achievement awards in the fields of physics and astronomy, and computer science. Kadi Jamal Al-Bouabid from Al-Anjal Schools in Al-Ahsa Education Department and Ghala Turki Al-Muabdi from the Fifth Secondary School in Jazan Education Department secured second place in engineering, while Yara Abdullah Al-Wadaei from Manarat Riyadh Schools in Riyadh Education Department won third place in the category. Areej Abdullah Al-Qarni from Al-Batool Schools in Makkah Education Department got third place in medicine and life, and Noura Majed Al-Quraishi from the University Schools in the Eastern Province Education Department third place in chemistry. Abdullah Fahd Al-Otaibi from Ibn Al-Nafis Secondary School in Al-Kharj Education Department won third place in engineering, and Salem Awaid Al-Saadi from Prince Abdulmohsen Bin Abdulaziz Secondary School in Medina Education Department was placed fourth in earth and environmental sciences. In the special awards category, Ahmed Ali Al-Meer from the University Schools in the Eastern Province Education Department received a special achievement award in physics and astronomy, and Jouri Sultan Al-Busaili from the Model Education Schools in Riyadh Education Department won a special achievement award in computer science. These special awards are given according to specific criteria and standards by universities, research centers, and institutes. The TISF 2024 is held annually in Taipei under the auspices of Taiwan's Ministry of Education and is organized by the Taiwan National Science Education Center, facilitating competition among middle and high school students in diverse fields of scientific projects, research, and innovations from participating countries.
