Fire breaks out in Ajman residential building, brought under control
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 27 - 06 - 2023

A massive fire broke out in a high-rise residential complex in United Arab Emirates' (UAE) Ajman city in the early hours of Tuesday, Khaleej Times reported. The incident occurred in Tower 02 of the Ajman One complex of the Al Rashdiyah 3 district.
A video shared by Ajman police headquarters on Instagram shows the corner of the building engulfed in flames reaching from the ground level to the top.
Meanwhile, debris can be seen falling on the ground as emergency services arrive at the scene. After a few hours, the fire was brought under control.
Emergency teams from Ajman Police and the Civil Defense swung into action quickly to control a fire which broke out in a residential tower in the early hours of Tuesday.
According to a senior official from Ajman Civil Defense, the building was evacuated and the flames were promptly brought under control by the Civil Defense teams, resulting in no casualties.
Gulf News reported from the scene that residents were observed sitting on the pavement, awaiting instructions from officials. In the meantime, locals from the nearby area distributed water bottles to the affected residents.
Maj. Gen. Dr. Jassim Muhammad Al Marzouqi, commander-in-chief of Civil Defense at the Ministry of Interior, along with Brig. Gen. Abdullah Saif Al Matroushi, director general of police operations at Ajman Police, and Col.l Khaled Ahmed Al Shamsi, deputy director general of Ajman Civil Defense, supervised the fire extinguishing operation.
Brig. Gen. Abdullah Saif Al Matroushi, director general of police operations, at Ajman Police, clarified that in collaboration with the Police Operations Room, a mobile police station was set up at the incident site of Ajman One Tower (02) to offer services such as reports, certificates, and assistance to the residents.
Furthermore, in partnership with the Transport Authority, seven buses were arranged to facilitate the relocation of the affected tower's residents to hotels in Ajman and Sharjah, with the support of the Red Crescent.
There were no immediate reports of injuries from the incident, but UAE officials are yet to comment on what happened.
Notably, the fire engulfed two buildings in the same complex back in 2016, as per BBC. Residents were evacuated, but several were treated for breathing problems and minor injuries.
In 2020, a fire that broke out at a residential tower in Sharjah injured seven people. Videos on social media showed burning debris falling from a tower engulfed in flames, which local media said was the 48-story Abbco Tower. — Agencies
