Nadia Al-Fawaz Saudi Gazette ABHA – A five-year-old child has been admitted to Asir Central Hospital's ICU on Sunday due to an alleged medical error. The child's father, Abdullah Al-Absi, said his son was admitted into the hospital's operating room for a simple procedure on his lower abdomen that should not have taken more than half an hour. However, the child was kept in the operating room for two hours and was then taken directly to the ICU. Doctors said the son went into a coma but they differed on the reasons. Some said it was due to an anesthesia overdose while others attributed the cause to a pneumothorax. The father filed a complaint with the medical director. Asir Health Affairs spokesman Saeed Al-Naqeer said the hospital's medical director told them that the child developed a minor pneumothorax and was admitted into ICU to ensure that he received good care.
