Health Affairs in Asir Region are investigating a complaint filed by a Saudi national, who claims that medical error was the cause for the removal of his wife's uterus. As a result she has been deprived of having children despite only being in her thirties. Dr. Abdullah Al-Wade'iy, Director of Health in the region, said the results of the investigations would appear soon. The Saudi national Hasan Qabsoon Al-Zahrani said he admitted his wife, only identified as Kh.M.G., who was nine-months pregnant to Abha General Hospital as the fetus had stopped moving in her womb. It was determined that the fetus was dead and Al-Zahrani demanded that a Caesarian section be performed to remove it, but the hospital, however, refused under the pretext that the woman refused to undergo a checkup. He added that when matters became more complicated, his wife who was in a difficult state was transferred to the Gynecology and Maternity Specialist Hospital in Abha, where Dr. Muhammad Al-Amin immediately started procedures for removing the fetus from her abdomen on an ordinary bed using “assisted delivery” methods despite the woman doctor accompanying him having warned him that these methods were dangerous because the dead fetus weighed six kg. Al-Zahrani said he entered his wife's room in the hospital only to discover that the room was not equipped for a delivery, so he transferred her to Abha General Hospital where she was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) suffering from severe internal bleeding due to lacerations in her womb. At that point it was decided that the only course of action was to remove the uterus to stop the bleeding.
