JEDDAH — The Indian International School Jeddah's (IISJ), girls' section, Social Science department observed Earth Day Monday. Students of grades six — eight conducted a special assembly. They pledged to conserve resources and save the Earth. Earth's vitality and beauty was appreciated with a poem written by Asfiya Hussaini, a Social Science teacher, and Amal Mustaq of grade seven. To create awareness among the students an anti-litter and anti-plastic campaign was announced. A cleanliness drive has begun on a weekly basis to be carried out by the school houses. Electricity was also shut down for 10 minutes, and to teach students how they can make the best out of waste a “Paper Bag Competition” was also conducted. — SG
