The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed an agreement to extend the armistice in the sisterly republic of Yemen, while stressing the importance of opening humanitarian crossings in Taiz. The ministry commended the efforts of the special envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, to enhance commitment to the current armistice in line with the initiative of Saudi Arabia announced in March 2021 to end the crisis in Yemen and reach a comprehensive political solution. The ministry stressed the Kingdom's firm position and support for everything that guarantees the security and stability of Yemen and achieves the aspirations of the brotherly Yemeni people. It affirmed that the armistice aims primarily to reach a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire in Yemen and start the political process between the Yemeni government and Houthi militias. It also stressed the importance of the Houthis' commitment to the provisions of the current armistice, the speedy opening of crossings in Taiz to alleviate human suffering, and depositing revenues in the Central Bank of Yemen to pay the salaries of civil servants. — SPA
