Saudi Arabia to implement development projects worth $600m in Yemen

RIYADH — Prince Khalid bin Salman, Deputy Minister of Defense, announced on Thursday that Saudi Arabia would implement several development projects worth $600 million in Yemen.
Prince Khalid made the remarks while meeting with the head of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad Al Alimi, and members of the council during an official visit to Saudi Arabia.
Prince Khalid met with Al Alimi and the council members on the directives of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
During the meeting, Prince Khaled said 17 development projects with a value of $400 million will be implemented by the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) in 6 vital sectors, including energy, transportation, education, water, health, and state institutions.
He also said that as part of the initiative, the Kingdom will grant Yemen $200 million to provide oil derivatives to operate power stations, in order to meet the priority needs of the brotherly Yemeni people and alleviate their sufferings.
This initiative came out of the Saudi leadership's keenness to support the efforts of the President and members of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council in advancing Yemen politically and economically, as well as the Kingdom's keenness to continue supporting the Yemeni people.
During the meeting, Prince Khalid conveyed the greetings of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the Crown Prince to the President and members of the Leadership Council and their wishes for security, stability and peace for Yemen and its people. Al Alimi conveyed his greetings to the Saudi leaders.
The two sides discussed the latest developments in Yemen, as well as the efforts of the President of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council in unifying the Yemeni components, through which it contributes to reach a comprehensive political solution.
Prince Khaled affirmed the Kingdom's support for the Presidential Leadership Council of the Republic of Yemen. and its blessing for the council's positive initiatives with the international community that seek to bring security, peace and stability to Yemen, as well as ending the Yemeni crisis and reaching a comprehensive political solution that will transfer Yemen to peace and development.
The meeting was attended by the Saudi Ambassador to Yemen Mohammed Bin Saeed Al Jaber; Director of the Office of His Highness Deputy Minister of Defense Professor Hisham Bin Abdulaziz Bin Saif.
From the Yemeni side, the Council's members Major General Sultan Ali Al-Arada; Dr. Abdullah Al-Alimi Bawazeer; Othman Hussein Majali; Yemeni Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Dr. Shaya'e Mohsen Al-Zindani and the Director of the Office of the President of the Presidential Leadership Council Major General Saleh Al-Maqaleh.
