KUWAIT CITY — Kuwait on Friday recorded 428 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 66,957, Kuwait News Agency reported citing a statement from the health ministry. Of the new cases, there were 296 Kuwaitis and 132 expatriates from different countries, according to the ministry's spokesman Dr. Al-Sanad said. Most of the new cases were in contact with the previously infected while the source of infection in some cases is still being investigated, the spokesman added. The ministry announced two more deaths from complications caused by COVID-19, raising the total number of virus-related fatalities in the country to 447. The spokesman also said there were 134 patients currently receiving treatment in intensive care units. The ministry said that it conducted 2,920 additional coronavirus tests over the past 24 hours, pushing the total number of tests to 505,088. Earlier in the day, the ministry said that a total of 602 more patients completely from the deadly disease over the past 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 57,932. Kuwait has been easing coronavirus measures in a phased manner in its bid to return to normal life. Out of the total five phases, the country is currently in the third phase.
