KUWAIT CITY — Kuwait on Friday registered 553 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, taking the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 58,221, Kuwait News Agency said citing a statement from the health ministry. Of the new cases, there were 319 Kuwaiti citizens and 234 expatriates from different countries, the Health Ministry's spokesman Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad said during a daily press briefing on coronavirus developments in the country. Most of the new cases were found to be in touch with previously infected people while the source of infection is some cases are still being investigated, Dr. Al-Sanad added. According to the spokesman, two more patients died over the past 24 hours due to complications caused by the infection, pushing the total number of virus-related fatalities in the country t0 404. There were currently 143 patients receiving treatment in intensive care units, the spokesman added. Dr. Al-Sanad pointed out that a total of 3,443 coronavirus tests were conducted over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of tests done so far in the country to 452,970. Earlier in the day, the ministry said that 836 more patients recovered from the deadly disease over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries in Kuwait to 48,381.
