KUWAIT CITY — Kuwait on Friday recorded 740 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country to 53,580, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health carried by Kuwait News Agency. Speaking during the daily press briefing, the ministry's official spokesman Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad confirmed one more death from complications caused by COVID-19, taking the total number of virus-related fatalities in the country to 383. Of the new cases, 487 are Kuwaiti citizens and 253 are expatriates from different countries, the spokesman said. The spokesman added that most of the latest cases contracted the infection after coming into contact with the previously infected people, while sources of the infection for some cases are being investigated. A total of 157 patients are receiving treatment in intensive care units, according to the spokesman. Al-Sanad pointed out that the ministry conducted 4,121 additional coronavirus tests over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of COVID-19 tests done in the country to 427,006. Earlier in the day, the ministry announced that 528 more patients have recovered from COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries from the deadly disease in the country to 43,214.
