KUWAIT CITY — Kuwait on Thursday registered 919 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed COVID-19 infections in the country to 47,959, according to a statement from the health ministry carried by Kuwait News Agency. The health ministry also announced one more death from COVID-19, raising the total number of virus-related fatalities in the country to 359. Of the new cases, there are 549 Kuwaiti citizens and 370 expatriates, according to the health ministry's official spokesman, Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad. All the new cases were in contact with previously infected people or are being investigated for sources of infection, the ministry's spokesman said. He added that there are 142 patients receiving treatment in intensive care units, the spokesman added. Meanwhile, 24 more patients have been discharged from quarantine facilities, however, they need to spend 14 additional days in home isolation. The health authorities conducted 4,312 tests over the past 24 hours, raising the total number COVID-19 tests in the country to 395,349, Dr. Al-Sanad said. Earlier in the day, the ministry also said that 675 more patients have completely recovered from the deadly virus over the past 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries from the disease in the country to 38,390.
