A total of 1,557 new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) were registered in Oman on Monday, in addition to five new virus related death cases. Of the newly detected cases, 1,057 are Omani nationals and 500 are non-Omanis. This brings the total number of positive COVID-19 cases to 47,735 in the sultanate. The total death toll on Monday stood at 218 death, the ministry of health said. The ministry also pointed out that 1,229 new cases have recovered, bringing the total number to 29,146 recoveries. The ministry said 3,852 tests of COVID-19 were conducted and 74 cases were hospitalized over the past 24 hours, adding that the total number of current hospitalized infected patients stands at 465. Of them 129 are in intensive care units (ICUs). The total conducted tests were 213,187 as of Monday, according to the health ministry. As cases continue to rise, authorities will set up a field hospital equipped with 200 beds in order to treat COVID-19 patients, Times of Oman reported on Sunday. — Agencies
