Saudi Arabia sees spike in coronavirus cases with 2,591 new infections; 31 more die

RIYADH — Saudi Arabia on Friday reported 2,591 new coronavirus cases and 31 virus-related deaths, raising the total number of confirmed cases in the Kingdom to 95,748 and death toll to 642 according to a statement from the Ministry of Health.
Out of the total 95,748 infections, only 24,490 are active cases who are receiving medical treatment. Most of the active cases are in stable health conditions while 1,412 cases are critical, the ministry said.
Meanwhile, 1,651 people have recovered in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries in the Kingdom to 70,616.
Most of the new infections were recorded again in the capital Riyadh followed by Jeddah, Makkah and Hufof with 459, 254, 129 and 102 cases respectively.
The remaining cases were reported in other cities and provinces of the Kingdom.
The percentage of the Saudis among the reported cases is 46 compared to 54 for the expatriates, and while females constituted 32 percent of the cases, males made up 68 percent.
In terms of age categories, elders were 4 percent, children made up 13 percent and the adults constituted 83 percent.
Meanwhile, 21,763 additional coronavirus tests have been conducted, taking the total number of COVID-19 tests in the Kingdom to 908,972 so far.
