Published in The Saudi Gazette on 20 - 05 - 2020

The North India Fraternity Forum – NIFF Jeddah set an example by keeping its members creatively involved and connected while maintaining the social distancing norms in a virtual fun event. NIFF Jeddah recently held its first online quiz for its members under the title "NIFF online Muqabla" and it was open to all its members to participate.
The motive of this contest was to keep its members connected, motivated, informed and involved in this unprecedented situation of the lockdown due to COVID-19 coinciding with Holy Month of Ramadan — a month in which people need to stay together in the spirit of sharing and caring.
This year in Ramadan this was the perfect way to stay together and yet stay separate as per the Saudi government's directives to stem the spread of COVID-19.
The quiz was targeted at all age groups and had dedicated sections like Ramadan, COVID, Current Affairs and Sports and participants were quizzed with questions from these subjects. The quiz was arranged via two popular apps, Zoom and Kahoot and was very professionally programmed by the NIFF Excom team. Members participated from the safe comforts of their homes and had a flawless, true to life quiz experience.
The position of players were updated on the app after each question, which kept the enthusiasm on a constant high till the end, where the winners were declared on the app itself — the first 3 positions. To encourage the participants, NIFF also declared four consolation prizes. All prizes were to be presented in cash.
The participants and winners of the quiz displayed true spirit of sportsmanship and of Ramadan by donating the declared prize amount to NIFF Charity activities as their contribution and proved themselves to be true winners.
The winners in the order of the position were Captain Shah Alim, Ms. Noreen Shah and Mohammed Wazir. Deeba Shah, Mohammed Siraj, Owais Shah and Ahmed Wazir won consolation prizes. Their winning gesture of contributing the prize to charity was appreciated by all NIFF members.
The quiz program was conceived by the core team of NIFF Excom lead by President Aziz ur Rab, prepared and conducted by Joint Secretary Asim Zeeshan, advisory team consisted of Rehan Khan, Ramnarayan Iyer, Zahoor Ansari, Ajay Singh, Wazir Akhtar, Mohd. Shahzad and Farhan Rizvi. General Secretary Surendrapal Singh hosted the session.
Prior to the above, NIFF Volunteers worked extensively in Jeddah and at various locations in India to help people affected by COVID-19 crisis, mainly during lockdown to provide food supplies to the daily wage workers with the help of generous contribution by NIFF members. Over 800 families benefitted for the NIFF COVID-19 Food Drive.
This activity is ongoing and NIFF will be distributing similar aid as special EID packages to such families in Jeddah and India to support them celebrate Eid in this time of crisis. — SG
