ARAR — Minister of Health Dr. Tawfiq Al-Rabiah has instructed Abdullah Al-Azmi, director of the Health Department in the Northern Border Region, to honor a surgeon after his photo of breaking fast while carrying out a surgical operation went viral on social media.
Dr. Abdul Razaq Al-Huzaimi, head of the Department of Neurosurgery and Spine at Prince Abdulaziz Bin Musaed Hospital in Arar, was seen in the image as being helped by a nursing assistant to drink juice to break his fast while performing surgery.
It showed the embodiment of perfection in carrying out this noble life-saving mission of many health heroes who rolled up their sleeves to perform surgeries and other missions without worrying about their own fatigue, hunger and thirst.
Dr. Al-Huzaimi's exemplary humanitarian act was acclaimed as a typical example of many other heroes who continue to provide their humanitarian services under any circumstances and times in the health sector when the Kingdom is waging a tough battle to stem the spread of coronavirus.
These heroes are striving with their dedicated and selfless services in serving the country with offering round-the-clock services for citizens and expatriates, unmindful of even their health being exposed to danger.
They also deliver a strong message of saving human lives under any circumstances and disseminating the sublime value of humanitarian work especially in overcoming the current pandemic situation.
Speaking to Okaz/Saudi Gazette, Dr. Al-Huzaimi commented: "The operation was urgent for a 40-year-old patient suffering from brain hemorrhage. While we were undergoing the surgical operation, iftar time appeared and that prompted the staff to bring in water and juice quickly, without any interruption of the operation, which was crowned with success, praise be to God."
Dr. Al-Huzaimi said that all his colleagues are engaged in their work round-the-clock to carry out their mission to save the lives of people and confront the corona pandemic. "Surgeries are continuing unhindered even at fasting times," he added.
