The Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance has warned employees and workers of mosques not to initiate any project for providing Iftar to fasting Muslims in the mosques or the neighboring open areas across the Kingdom, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Friday. The ministry also called on imams of mosques not to collect donations for Iftar (breaking the fast) or similar projects, even if it is through donation of food baskets. Those who wish to give charity should approach the licensed charitable authorities, the ministry asserted. In a statement issued on Thursday containing a number of directives for Ramadan, the ministry unveiled the projects it is carrying out during the holy month. In addition, the ministry stressed the continued temporary closure of mosques and specified the time for the call (Adhaan) for Isha prayer. As per the directives to the personnel of mosques, the temporary suspension of Friday and congregation prayers in the mosques, grand mosques (jawaamea) and among groups is to continue. The directives call for restricting the Adhaan (call for prayer) for the obligatory prayers only amid the precautionary measures taken by the Kingdom to curb the transmission of novel coronavirus (COVID-19). The directives Muezzins to abide by making the Adhaan at the specified time for obligatory prayers. The time for call for Isha prayer during the holy month of Ramadan will be at the usual time, like in the other months. The ministry pointed out that due to the current circumstances under the coronavirus pandemic, Itikaaf in the mosques has been banned until this pandemic disappears. If any mosque is opened for Muslims to observe Itikaaf, then the imam of the mosque will be held responsible for this act. The ministry confirmed the continuation of the program for cleaning, sterilizing and preparing the mosques, and maintenance of the air-conditioners, lighting, restrooms and other safety and security measures. The ministry alerted supervisors of mosques and those in charge of operation and maintenance to ensure that all the systems, machines and appliances are functioning perfectly. They should coordinate with the servants and maintenance workers of mosques in their functions. — SG
