The Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Call and Guidance has ordered imams to remain in their mosques for all prayers, particularly during breaking of the fast and Itikaf (secluded prayers). Sheikh Muhammad Bin Saeed Al-Qahtani, Director of the ministry's branch in Asir region, said it was important for imams to carry out the duties assigned to them. He said the instructions, circulated by the ministry to all regions, stated that the absence of imams causes unnecessary problems. “We will not accept any excuses in this regard.” Imams who fail to comply with these orders will be dealt with firmly, the official added. He said the ministry oversees all Iftar projects in Asir region. Those who want to contribute to Ramadan Iftar should comply with the ministry's instructions governing this process. This includes not collecting any donations from anyone. Imams will be fired if they collect money from worshippers. He said the ministry has teams monitoring mosques. An imam will get three warnings if he violates regulations, after which he will be fired. He said the ministry is tasked with monitoring the performance of imams, Khateebs, muezzins and workers such as cleaners and guards. __
