Hyundai Sonata is a big success with Saudi drivers
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 10 - 03 - 2020

Hyundai's eighth-generation Sonata has proved a big hit with Saudi customers since its launch in June. Hyundai achieved impressive sales of the new Sonata in the first three months after its launch during the summer. Customers recognize the distinctive combination of value and quality that has made Sonata such a trusted name, and also respond strongly to its stylish new four-door-coupe body design.
Sonata features Hyundai's latest ‘Sensuous Sportiness' design language and was the first model to be based on Hyundai's new, innovative ‘third-generation' modular vehicle platform. This delivers increased strength and reduced weight to enable improvements in design, safety, efficiency and driving performance.
In addition, Sonata uses an extensive application of advanced technologies to boost comfort, convenience and active safety. Hyundai also offers the confidence of a five-year warranty, delivering buyers with complete peace of mind.
Sonata is an important and successful model for Hyundai in local markets. The new-generation set a new standard for style and features in its segment, and customers have responded enthusiastically to a car that clearly sets itself apart from the crowd, a company statement said.
Sonata features a number of advanced comfort and convenience features typically found only in luxury cars, including a sunroof, electric parking brake, smart trunk, Qi high-speed wireless smartphone charging pad with cooling fan, standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, text-to-speech via Bluetooth, heated and ventilated front seats and split-folding rear seats.
The top-of-the-line audio and navigation display is a wide, high-definition, customizable, 10.25-inch touchscreen monitor with split screens, while the cluster supervision display is a full 12.3 inches. Dual Bluetooth support is also available, so two devices can be paired at the same time – one for phone calls and one for streaming audio.
The new Sonata maximizes occupant safety through a range of active and passive safety technologies. Passengers benefit from a comprehensive nine-airbag set-up, while a sophisticated Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) works to alert drivers to things they might miss while driving – and in some cases may take action autonomously to avoid an accident.
Key driver assistance features are packaged as Hyundai SmartSense, utilizing inputs from the car's three radar sensors, 8 ultrasonic sensors and five cameras.
Depending on specification, available ADAS technologies include:
• Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist
• Lane Keeping Assist
• Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist
• Safe Exit Assist
• Driver Attention Warning
• Blind-Spot View Monitor
• High Beam Assist
• Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go
• Lane Following Assist
• Rear View Monitor
• Surround View Monitor
• Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist
• Parking Distance Warning
A head-up display (HUD) supports safe driving by displaying information such as speed and navigation commands, as well as alerts from active safety and ADAS features, without the driver needing to look away from the road. — SG
