CAIRO — Foreign Minister Prince Faisal Bin Farhan has reaffirmed the Kingdom's support for the Palestinian people and their just cause. "The Kingdom will not falter or delay in supporting the Palestinian people in all ways and means in order to restore their legitimate rights and establish an independent Palestinian state, with full sovereignty over all the Palestinian territories on the basis of the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital," Prince Faisal said while addressing the emergency meeting of the Arab League here on Saturday. The minister, who headed the Saudi delegation to the meeting, said Saudi Arabia has made great and pioneering efforts to support the Palestinian people, and to stand with them in all international forums to achieve their legitimate rights. "The foremost among these efforts was the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative, which emphasized that a military solution to the conflict did not bring peace or security to either of the two parties, and that establishing a just and comprehensive peace through negotiation is the strategic choice." At a time when Kingdom supports efforts and initiatives to advance the negotiation wheel to reach a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, Prince Faisal said, the Kingdom affirms that the success of these efforts requires that its ultimate goal is to achieve a just solution that guarantees the rights of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital. The minister reiterated the Kingdom's permanent position of supporting the Palestinian Authority and its President Mahmoud Abbas. He reaffirmed Saudi Arabia's support for the Palestinian people and their options to achieve their hopes and aspirations. "The Kingdom would remain committed to supporting the Palestinian people at all levels as well as their decisions for the national cause," he added.
